Though this blog is about happiness and not promo, some of the things I’m happy about are connected to my writing. I’m especially happy right now with my new Love & Murder covers. The first book in the series was about a woman whose friend was drying of cancer. There was romance, a small boy, a dog, a cat – and murdered veterans. This book had such a mix of elements, I thought that a cover with graphic lettering and scenery was the right way to go.

I was completely wrong. Everything I write comes down to emotions, and the covers didn’t show that. My first inkling of wrongness came from Bloduedd, aka as Book Girl at Mur-y Castell at Books for Life. She reviewed A LOVE & MURDER CHRISTMAS  last Dec. Though she liked the book, she gave the cover a FAIL. Her book blog is popular, and quite a few commenters agreed with her about the cover.

I had a lot going on in my life then (and who doesn’t?). It took me until recently to change the first three Love & Murder covers. I talked to author Elle J Rossi, who is also an amazing cover artist at EJR Digital Art. For my upcoming fourth cover, she has a woman and a dog in it. We ended up with new covers for the first three books, all of them with a woman and either a cat or dog, and a background that fits the book. (I love what Elle did with the print covers, too. The spines and the back covers are black, which adds to the suspense elements in my books.)

The cover for book 5 is ready, too, but I’ll reveal that later. I’m just so happy with all of them. Here are the three cover do-overs!

What makes you happy today?

I had an awesome day yesterday! Entangled, a Paranormal Romance was mentioned all over the internet. The Season, RT Book Reviews, and Barbara Vey’s Beyond Her Book Publishers Weekly blog are a few places.

Cynthia Eden had a HUGE DOUBLE RELEASE PARTY for Entangled and for her new e-novella Bound in Darkness. She has tons of giveaways, with many guest authors. I’m giving away Cattitude and Galaxy Girls. I asked the age-old question “If you could be an animal, which one would you like to be?” Someone said a unicorn, which I loved. Big cats seem to be the favorite. The contest is still good until noon today (the 13th). So, go and comment on my post and any others.

I’m giving away an e-copy of Entangled at Magical Musings, too. I’m announcing the winner tomorrow, so you have until then to comment and have a chance to win.

Entangled is on two bestselling lists already. I am so frickin’ excited!

I have so much going on, and it’s all good. DailyCheapReads is featuring DEAD PEOPLE, Book 1 of my Haunted Hearts series, under its Super Cheap reads.  (It’s only 99 cents!) I’m excited about that. Yesterday it was #11 on the Kindle bestseller list for the ghost category.

The reason that’s important is because when someone is looking for a book in a certain category, I want them to see mine in the first list that comes up. Also, the cover of my book will be more likely to included in the “Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought…” row of books below another book that the reader is checking out. Right now, I’m #23 in Gothic and I want to be in the first 20. Better yet, the first 10! I hope the DailyCheapReads feature helps me get there. (I just checked my rank, and I’m at #9 in ghosts and 17 in Gothics! These numbers fluctuate quickly and might go the other way, but right now I’m excited!)

To celebrate Read An E-book Week, Smashwords invited authors to discount books. I created a coupon for DRAGON BLUES that puts it at half price, $1.50 instead of it’s normal $2.99 price. The coupon code is right below the e-book price and will be there through March 12, 2011.

You don’t want to miss Barbara Vey’s 4th Anniversary Bash for her PW: Beyond Her Book blog. This is HUGE. It’s a weeklong party, with tons of giveaways. And I’m part of it. Today is Paranormal, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror and Urban Fantasy. Since my books are paranormal, I’m on the first day, along with friends like Misty EvansLeanna Renee Hieber and Elisabeth Naughton, and many other authors. I’m giving away Dragon Blues, Dead People and Cattitude. There are lots of prizes, so check it out.

Last night my husband and I had dinner at a nearby restaurant with my SIL and BIL. The food was good, but another reason we went there was that the two lower priced meals were free. My book bargain last week was an anthology, Kiss Me Kill Me, with stories by Zoe Winters, Lori Brighton, H.P. Mallory and others. It’s only 99 cents and all the proceeds go to charity! Find out more about it here.

Are you more likely to buy something when it’s a bargain? What bargains have you gotten lately?
